SLMA Pledges Suitable and Sustainable Programmes for All

The Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) reaffirmed its dedication to advancing accessible healthcare, resilient health systems, and the empowerment of individuals across all stages of life at the inauguration of the 138th Anniversary International Medical Congress held on 25th July 2025.

SLMA President Dr. Surantha Perera, delivering the keynote address, outlined a series of visionary initiatives including:

  • A Presidential Task Force on Road Safety
  • The “Reach Out and Read” early childhood development programme
  • A renewed focus on Planetary Health and Climate Resilience
  • The establishment of the Sri Lanka Medical Advancement Trust with an initial fund of Rs. 100 million

The event also featured esteemed guests including Prof. Steve Turner, President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK), and Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Health Ministry Secretary, among other dignitaries and medical leaders.

This landmark moment highlights the SLMA’s ongoing commitment to evidence-based policy, equity in healthcare, and sustainable national health development.
