Message of the Chairperson of the committee
The Expert Committee on Suicide Prevention (ECSP) was created within the SLMA, because of the recognition that suicide and deliberate self-harm are important public health challenges in Sri Lanka. A key role of the ECSP is to identify key areas and key stakeholders, and to advocate together with relevant stakeholders, for a sustained and coordinated approach for prevention of suicide and self-harm in Sri Lanka. In this context, the ECSP has already developed a policy document on the prevention of suicide and self-harm, which is available from the SLMA website. The ECSP strongly advocates for comprehensive, national level, evidence-based strategies for the minimization of suicide and self-harm in Sri Lanka. The ECSP is pleased to support and work together with relevant national and local stakeholders towards achieving this important goal.
